Brothers Rob Henry, Larry Mann and Roland Stayton present a gift card to Katie Garrett from Kenwood Elementary

During our last meeting (12/6) the Brothers decided to donate $100.00 to each grade school in Oldham County to help counselors buy clothes for children in need.  Brothers Gene Crady and Larry Mann worked very hard to collect the funds, purchase gift cards and even negotiated a deal with Walmart to chip in an additional $25 per school!!  Thanks very much to the Lodge and the hard working brothers who made this possible and delivered the cards to the schools!  This is what being a Mason is all about!

2016 Master John Shaughnessy and incoming Master for 2017 Tom Ruby (note that stylish hat Bro. Tom is wearing)

As always, the last meeting of the year before our installation is a very busy time.  The Lodge voted on the new officers for 2017, donated funds to several local charities and needs, remembered our sick and distressed brethren and their families and prepared for the upcoming installation and New Year.

One of things to note is that this year, the Lodge voted to give a $100 dollar Walmart gift card to each elementary school in the county.  These gifts are for the purpose of helping school counselors clothe children who might not be able to afford new clothes.  This is such an important and worthy cause to support.  The children in our community will be our future and as Masons, we owe a responsibility to help our community where we can.  To this end, Brother Gene Crady did a lot of the work as far as acquiring the gift cards and setting up meeting times with school counselors to deliver the gifts.  This takes a lot of time and effort to accomplish and the Lodge would like to very sincerely thank Bro. Gene Crady for all his hardwork!  Also thanks to all the Brothers of the Lodge for making this happen!

Bro. Phil Feigel and Past Master Gene Crady (Bro. Gene is smiling because of that large wad of cash in his hand)

Brother Phil Feigel also managed to collect a few funds from the Lodge last meeting to help support a local family in need.  Again Brothers, this is what being a Mason is truly all about.  Thanks to Bro. Phil for going out of his way to look after those in need.

This last meeting was also Master John Shaughnessy's time in the East during a regular Lodge meeting.  Its been a great time this year with many good things accomplished in the Lodge.  Thanks and congratulations to Bro. John for his time and service to the Lodge!

Brothers from the Grand Lodge of Kentucky performed a Cornerstone Laying Ceremony for the new Ballardsville Fire Department Station 2.  Past Master Gene Crady was also there to lend a helping hand.  The Grand Lodge did a great job with the ceremony and many brothers from local Lodges were there to show their support.  It was a great event for Masonry as well as for the South Oldham county community.

Bro. Kenneth Rodgers PM, Rep. of Masons Helping Masons and WM John Shaughnessy

Our last Lodge meeting, we had the privilege of a visit by Bro. Kenneth Rodgers (109), representative of Masons Helping Masons for the Grand Lodge of Kentucky.  Bro. Kenneth gave a great talk on the importance of Masons Helping Masons and also discussed the 2017 Grand Master's (Bro. Todd Jones) platforms for the upcoming year.  Bro. Kenneth presented a fantastic selection of knives, ties and pins that are availble to all Brothers with proceeds going to the Masons Helping Masons funds.

Also discussed was the focus of Laura Jones (the Grandmaster's wife) for the coming year, The Rite Care Kids program.  You can find out more about this program on her page on the Grand Lodge website by clicking here.

A couple of things to note as well.  The 2016 year is coming to an end, which means our next meeting, Dec. 6th will be our annual elections for officers for the upcoming year.  This is an important night for the Lodge as who you choose to run the Lodge will affect all Brothers for the upcoming year.  Please come out to show your support for the Lodge and upcoming officers for the 2017 year.  We will be having a chili dinner as well, so be sure to show up early for good food and fellowship!

Our last Lodge meeting of the year (Dec. 20th) will be our annual installation of officers for the coming year!  This will be an open Lodge so feel free to bring your families and friends along!  This will also be a potluck dinner with the Lodge providing the meat, so you might want to be thinking about what sides you can bring to make this a fantastic dinner for all.

Hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Congratulations to Tommy Reynolds of Louisville, Kentucky!  Thanks to his donation to Pewee Valley Lodge, he won the S&W Airweight .38!

Also, thanks to ALL the Brothers and folks who made donations to the Lodge, it really helps the Lodge to be more active in the community and to help out in various charitable ways.  We could not do it without your support and help.
